The Knights do it again.  For the 2nd time in 3 years we take the Outdoor Crown
5/17 NYCHSAA Varsity Champs- A complete team effort.  We score 30 points in Sprints, 30 Points in Field and 30 Points in Distance.  Balanced attack.  Each part of the team did its job.  The evening started off great for us as we place 3 guys(Clarke, Kiarie-Mumbi and Mejia) in the top 5 of the 400 Hurdles and 4 guys(Berka, Raslowski, Cipri and Peragine) in the top 5 of the steeplechase.  We added to that 1st and 2nd (Baker and Efap)in the triple jump and 2nd and 3rd in the 4x400 to open an early lead on Fordham by putting up 35 points in 4 events. John Rice then ran a school record in the 3200 meters of 9:12  (going out in 4:36 coming back in 4:36).  the Sprinters then pick up big points in the 100 (Lambert 2nd Place) the 4x1( Onah, Archer, Cocoves and Santos Shevette) grabbing 4th and Moe and Clarke taking 3rd and 4th in the 400.  Lambert would come back to win the Long Jump in a personal best of almost 22'  The High Jump saw 3 guys over 5'6" including  Freshman Jumper Conor Greene and Santangelo and cocoves combined to get 6 more points.  rice and Vazquez would team up to get 8 important points in the  1600. The 4x800 and the 200 would see us add to our point total.  After 18 events, the meet was deadlocked at 84 points.  This is when Dennis Barnes decided to have the throwing series of his carrer.  5 of his 6 throws were past his previous PR.  He threw a rocket becoming the 1st Son of Xavier to throw over 170'.  His victory sealed the deal and brought home the championship.

5/17 NYCHSAA Weight Champs-  Bryan Chao defends his Shot title to lead the weight squad to a 3rd place finish.

2014 CHSAA SOPHOMORE CHAMPIONS
5/10-  Soph Intersectionals at Farrell- The Sophs competed and were victorious.  They did not have the best day, but they did what champions always do, they found a way to win.  A complete team effort, 12 guys scored in the relays, we score on the running and in the field events.  This team, which was 8th last year as frosh, refused to go quietly and sealed the deal with an insipiring win in the final event of the meet.  Trailing Chaminade by 1 point we needed to win the 4x400 which we did in convincing fashion.

5/10 Frosh Intersectionals at Farrell- A great day for the Frosh as they place top 10 as a team.  Lots of personal best.  We Score big in the relays as 8 guys claim Intersectional medals.

5/10 North Shore Invite-  A great tune up for next week.  Louis Vazquez cruises to an impressive win in the 3200 meters.  Some imoressive 100 times by the sprint crew

5/10 Loucks Games- A good day up in the North.  Charlie Lambert runs a pr in the 200 breaking 23 seconds to post the #3ATX.  John Rice runs a great Steeple to win the event.  His time is #3 in NY State and #5 in the U.S.of A.  Dennis Barnes makes the finals of the Jav with a 162'11" toss.

Giancarlo Cipri and his MVP award
5/7 Frosh Soph NYCHSAA Champs at Iona-  Tremendous performances by the underclassmen in their Sectional Championships.  The Freshman showed a balanced attack as they scored in Jumping evenst (Long and High) Throwing Events(Shot and Jav) Sprint events (100 and 200) Distance Events (800, 1600 and 3200) and all 3 relays.  The team was led by Sectional MVP Giancarlo Cipri won won the 1600 meters and anchored the victorious 3200 meter relay.  Huge pr's and gutsy performances as the Freshmen bring hom the 3rd place team plaque.
The Sophomores show great internal fortitude as the win the 2014 Sectional Championships.  They Crown 4 Sectional Champs ( Long Jump, High Jump, 1600 Meters and 400 Hurdles.) on their way to victory.  Gutsy races all around.  A great improvement for them considering thet were 5th last year as Frosh

CROSS COUNTRY 2013

11/30 NXN Regionals-  A great way to end the season despite the freezing temperatures.  The team improves as Berka, Vazquez and Ronan all hit pr's. Team places 11th in the region.

Here are the top times from the Cross country Season for this year.

11/16 NY State Federations-  In a great race, we see the Varsity take 13th as a team and set a school record in the 5 man average for Bowdin park.  John Rice sets the school record for the course placing 16th overall.

11/16 Jesuit ChampsA great way to end the season as many guys hit personal bests.

The Varsity 7 with their 3rd place plaque.  Best finish since 1931

11/9 CHSAA Championships-  This is the 6th time that Xavier has qualified for the NY State Federation Cross Country Championships. ( 1999, 2000, 2007, 2011, 2012) We make it 3 years in a row for the first time in school. Some tremendous races on all levels as we sweep 3rd place in all levels.
The JV C started the day, with Justyn Millamena running a huge personal best of 52 seconds getting under the 15:30. He would lead 6 guys under 16 Minutes and claim 3rd place as a team.  The freshman who took the challenge of running the 2.5 mile course did not disappoint as 8 Freshman would break 17 minutes on the day. (Kaufmann, Colter, Leonhardt-Garcia, Luna, McVeigh, Mirto, Cipri, and McCann) Huge races in The C by Juniors, perez, Saldivar and Swammy.
The Varsity then took the course and we got great performances by Rice, Kaufmann, Berka, Ronan and Sternglass who all pr'ed or ran their fastest time of the year. Vazquez and Galasso sealed the deal by getting in front of other teams back scores to insure the 3rd Place plaque.
The JV A Team was weaked due to injury as Christian Watch and Tony Cruise were unable to compete, but that did not slow them down.  Garrison Schwer  proved he could come up big time with a 14;16 posting (a 28 second improvement). He 5 guys under 15 mins and also grab the 3rd Place Plaque.
The JV B team was the only squad to take the field without senior leadership and with 3 guys running the course or the first time.  None of that slowed them down as the got all 7 guys in under 16 mins and all in the top 31 of the race.  2 Freshmen step up and score in the race (Cipri and McCann)
Basically we were the best team from NYC as the only teams we lost too this weekend were from Long Island(Chaminade and St. Anthony's)

Congrats to our school President, Mr. Raslowsky who ran the NYC marathon posting a time of 5:28.12

11/2- CHSAA Frosh Soph Champs-  The Freshman come up big as 19 of the 21 who races this weekend score personal bests.  The Frosh A team ran a gutsy race and were lead once again by Giancarlo Cipri who raced to a 9:14 (a top 20 performace ATX).  The 5 scorers in this race would only be seperated by 30 seconds. All 7 of these guys would be under 9:50.  The B race would be lead by Matt Mirto who dropped a 16 secomd pr to run 9:40 which was good enough for 4th place in the race.  He would lead his squad to a 3rd place finish.  In the C Race, Jackson Notes would lead 4 guys under 10:30 with a 9 Second pr.  The C team would take 2nd losing only to Chaminade.  On the day the Frosh get 3 top 5 finishes and 21 team medals.

The Sophomores were lead by Dominick Ronan who posted a personal best of 14:13 with an 8th place finish.  The team had to deal with injuries to Christian Raslowsky and Tony Cruise and would they would perform admirably taking 8th place in the A race.  The B team led by Liam Creegan storms the hills to take 2nd place. The pack running pays off as they claim their silver medals.

10/26 NYCHSAA Sectional Championships-  A tough day for the Xavier faithful. The Freshman started the day with taking silver in both races.  Highlighted by Cipri's monster pr breaking 9:30 and Alfred Musto taking the individual Frosh B title with his sub 10 race.  The Varsity fell victim to the small race settings as they take 2nd to fordham 45-46.  John Rice ran to a new school record hitting 12:57 to win by 20 seconds.  The JV was lead to Victory By Christian Watch who takes the Individual JV title with his 14:39 posting.  ( We had 3 individual winnerson the day)

10/19  Frosh XC Relays- This weekend is the annual ritual of a Cross Country Relay.  The Freshmen run great. The A Team takes 2nd in the A race.  They beat out Regis and Fordham Prep with a Performance that is #6 ATX for the relays.  Not to be outdone the B team takes the B race.  It is our first win at the Relays since the glory days of 1997. The B team runs a convincing race with a monster lead off by Jon Pappas.  The C Team gets in on the action by taking 8th place medals with their performance.  A great day in the park.

10/16 NYCHSAA Sophomore Championships-  Last year as Freshmen, this squad suffered the disappointment of a tie for 3rd which was broken leaving them 4th place.  Today they were looking for redemption.  Christian Raslowsky becomes the 7th Son of Xavier to take the individual honors.  This is the 3rd year in a row we have had the Individual ( Eliot Kaufmann, John Rice and Christian Raslowsky) Sophomore champion. This is the 3rd time in School History that we have taken the Soph Crown.  It also represents Back to Back Championships. What a great day of racing for the class of 2016.  Their performance today was dominant as they left no doubt of who was the best Sophomore team in the NY Section and the City was as they take the 2013 Sophomore XC Crown.

10/12 Manhattan College Invite- All 4 Squads secure top 5 finishes in the Largest Meet in the country. The day started off with the Sophomores all running personal bests to take 5th place.  Tony Cruise came very close to breaking 15 mins with a 15:02 posting.  Ben Karam, Luis Santana and Pat Sullivan all join him with Sub 16 Min performances.  Chin, Clark and Ovalles complete the team with some impressive drops.  The Freshmen were up next and they ran as a pack with 15 seconds separating the top 5.  This type of pack running netted them 2nd place in the Race.(A trophy and team medals)
The JV toed the line next and James Galasso and Matt Benson had break out races to lead the team to a 5th place finish. Garrison Schwer becomes the 11th man to break 15 this season.  Paul Barnes comes painfully close with a 15:02 posting.  The Varsity had a great day as we run a 13:42 5 man average for the race.  We take 4th place as a team.  John Rice ran a personal best and a school record of 12:59.6.  He becomes the 1st Son of Xavier to crack the the 13 Min barrier.  Eliot Kaufmann hits 13:33 and Berka and Vazquez join him under 14 mins.  Razlowsky runs a great 14:01

10/11 All Hallows Invite-  Both Squads take silver in this Friday afternoon extravaganza. Some great performances as Al Musto leads the freshmen with a 12 second personal best to become the 9th Freshman this year to dip below 10:10.  Great running by Peter Tuffey who has a huge drop in his time.  The Varsity was led by the duo of Deihle and Bradley as both of them hit pr's/  Bradley cracks the 16 min barrier.

10/5  Shore Coaches Invitational- With the Seniors taking the SAT's, 7 underclassmen traveled to Holmdel, NJ to run the famed course there.  It is one of the toughest courses in the country with the 1st mile being straight up hill.  The Xavier Knights did not disappoint as they ran some gutsy races.  Congrats to the 3 SOphs who claimed their Varsity Letter this weekend. ( Tony Cruise, Ben Karam and Dominick Ronan)

10/4 Fordham Prep Development Meet #2 - The Freshman continue thier winning ways with a  victory over Fordham Prep at the Development meet.  Running as a pack the Frosh were able to get 7 runners across the line before any other team had 4 runners in.  A great performance.  In the Varsity race, the Sophomores stepped up and followed Garrison Schwer's lead to take 3rd place.  Lots of personal bests.

9/27- McQuaid Invitational-  Last year when we went north we set records and we posted some great times.  This year it was even better.  The School Record for the course fell, the 5 man average for both the Varsity and Jv fell as well.  Following the race plan to perfection, Nick Peragine (16:59) and Matt Benson(17:13) lead the JV to a 2nd place finish.  They stayed relaxed and comfortable and both of them placed in the top 10 of the JV Race. The Sophs were lead by the trio of Ronan, Cruise and Karam.  All of them broke 18 Min.  The Varsity was in one of the best races of the day.  Going out controlled, the Varsity 7 was able to begin picking of the competition through out the whole race.  The end result was impressive as we take 2nd place as a team only 8 points out of 1st. At the end of the day, we would capture the Glavin Cup as the fastest Jesuit team, and we would place 6th as a team on the merge of all the varsity races. (over 200 teams)

9/27- Fordham Prep Development Meet- The Frosh show an impressive group mentality as the run as a tight pack and win the race with a low score of 28 points.  18 Freshman break 12 mins.  Significant improvements by most Frosh. In the Varsity Race, Felipe Diehle leads the team with his first race on the season.  He breaks 16 mins for the 2.5 course.  Followed closely by fellow senior Ben Heni.  7 guys break 18 mins

9/21- Xavier Invitational- A great day at VCP.  Our teams run some really competitive times as we take home 25 medals on the day.  The Frosh A ran a great race even thought the Frosh course was messed up.  Jonathan Kaufmann and Ted Colter pace the team to a 2nd place finish to Chaminade.  In the B race, John Doyle ran a tough race to lead the B squad to a 1pt victory over Chaminade.  The Soph were lead by the trio of Ronan-Cruise and Karam as they once again defeat all Sectional competitors to take 2nd as a team.  In the Junior race, Paul Barnes lead the charge as this squad takes 6th.  In the Varsity race, we take 2nd to Don Bosco Prep (#2 team in New jersey) we were able to beat Syosset, St. John the Baptist and Monsignor Farrell.  It was a great start to the season.

9/16 Jim Scott 2 Mile Challenge-  Today we won the 21st edition of this classic race.  John Rice won the Varsity 2 Mile and Nick Peragine won the JV Mile.  Great performance all around.

ANYONE WHO MISSED SATURDAY'S MEET OR PRACTICE  NEEDS TO SPEAK WITH MR. DORMER AT RECESS.

9/14 Regis Invitational-  A picture perfect day at VCP.  The freshmen kick off the season with some impressive running as 12 of them break 11 minutes.  John Doyle posts the best time on the day for a Xavier Frosh.  The Sophs are lead by Tony Cruise and Ben Karam as the team takes 2nd in the Soph race.  They take down Sectional rivals, Regis, ST. Peters and Fordham.
