The 4x100 which we put together at the last minute takes 2nd place.  We scored in all the Hurdle races. We scored in all the throws. We scored in all the distance races.  A great day.  The freshmen run some huge personal bests  Matt Crockett runs a great 2000 steeple and a monster anchor on the 4x800 to grab 4th place. VICTORIOUS AT PENN RELAYS

Track and Field Videos on Flotrack

4/23-4/24 Penn Relays  - A tremendous effort by the 4x400 as they are able to win their heat in dramatic fashion running a 3:27  fastest time in the Dormer years.  It was our 1st win at Penn since the legendary 1979 team won at Penn. Brian King ran a smart lead off leg to hand off in 3rd place, Ed Wagner popped a huge pr breaking 52 seconds for the 400 and getting the team into 2nd place.  Shane Brunner took over and ran a tough leg hitting low 52  for his 400, handing off to Avery Sternglass in the money.  Avery did the job as anchor leg, putting in a dominate surge the last 100 meters to ensure the win.  Overall a great effort.  On Friday, the 4x100 of Cuffe, Leonardi, Campmeir and L Maiocco ran a season best 47.13

4/16-4/17- NY Relays-  Some school records fall at this historic meet.  Evan Ferrer successfully competes the 1st decathlon in school history, amassing over 3500 points.  The SMR from indoors takes 5th in the invitational SMR. John Maiocco posts a sub 7:00 performance for the 2000 meter steeplechase which is good enough for the Soph School Record in that event..

4/10-  Mount Relays-  The Freshmen go to the Bronx and post some great times. The quartet of Camacho, Creegan, M Crockett, and Profaci all gain their varsity letters by virtue of their 5th place finish in the Varsity DMR.

4/9-4/10- Mayor's Cup- Some great performances over this two day meet.  Highlighted by Zuccarello's #2ATX Soph posting of 10:12 in the 3200 meters. Other high points include 2 throwers qualifying for the finals in the Javelin, 2 teams medalling in the 3200 meter relay, with the A team delivering a 40 second victory.  Keith Mesdior was able to post a 22.96 in the 200.  Only the 3rd Xavier athlete to accomplish this in open competition.

INDOOR TRACK 2009-2010

3/12- 3/13 NSIC- "Nationals"- The Xavier team came to run. Some impressive performances posted at the last meet of indoors.  The SMRs were up first.  Xavier was one of the only teams to qualify 2 teams for this final.  The B team ran first posting an impressive sub 4 minute performance, with Brian King running a great anchor.  The A team decided to put themselves in the record books. Their 3:35.79 posting is a school record by 5 seconds and good enough to grab 10th place in the nation.  Not to be out done, the 800 meter relay hits the fastest time of the year and #2 ATX with a 1:34.71 time.  Soph Thrower Gino Giglio has a good day throwing over 45' in the shot.  He was 1 of only 2 sophs to qualify for the nationals this year.

3/6 NY State Championships- Avery Sternglass and Keith Mesidor travel to Cornell to compete in the NY State Championships.  Avery breaks 4:30 for the 3rd time this season, Keith soars over 20' yet again

2/20 Jesuit Invitational at Georgetown Prep- A great way to end the season. The team traveled down to our nation's capitol to partake in this new Jesuit tradition. The meet rapidly became a contest between Xavier and Fordham Prep. Some great performances as we take 2nd place as a team.

5TH PLACE AT VARSITY CITY CHAMPS.
2/13 CHSAA CHAMPS- The day saw a few Alumni show up to run the SMR.  As luck would have it, Tim McElroy was there, he was on the last Xavier Relay to make it to the finals of the 800 meter relay. That is just what our relay did today. We were seeded 14th, Qualified 5th and ended up taking 3rd place, posting the #3ATX time. All of this done by a junior and 3 sophomores. This competitive spirit was seen by everyone on the team. Avery Sternglass ran one of the toughest doubles of any athlete in the meet. He ran a gutsy 1000 meters, trying to go for the leader the entire race, and he came back to run a great tactical race in the 1600. Brian King, struggling with an Achilles injury, ran a personal best in the 600 meters. Shane Brunner pops a huge pr in the 400, running a 52.3.  The field events come up big for us, as we score in 3 of the 5 events. 2nd in Long jump, 4th in Triple Jump, and 5th in Shot Put, (also a 6th in the high jump).  All of this is done in a year when most people thought that we would not be a factor. Overall a great day for Xavier.

The Sophs with their plaque.  The best finish by Sophs in school history.
2/7 CHSAA Freshmen and Sophomore Intersectional Championships-  The meet had it all. It was exciting and we had some tremendous performances by both the Freshmen and Sophomores.  As always, it takes a bit of luck to win a championship.  We can close, down 1 point with one event to go. Ed Wagner and Gino Giglio grab individual city titles in their field events. (Long jump and Shot put.)  School records fall as Gabe Spooner takes down the 300 meter school record (old record A Henriquez 2006) on his way to a 2nd place finish and a personal best.  Dmitri Zuccarello breaks a 42 year old school record in the 1600 meters (old record held by P. Connelly 1968) as he grabs 3rd place. The Soph Sprinters come up big as they score in both the 4x200 (3rd fastest time in school history in the trials, school record in the finals.) and the 4x400 (3rd fastest time in school history.) The Soph distance runners score in the 1000( 2nd and 4th), 1600 (3rd), and 3200(2nd) meter runs.
Mr. Cambras' squad comes up big in the throws.  They take 1st(Giglio) and 3rd (Malewich) in the Soph Shot and 2nd (Toucey) and 3rd(Carpio) in the Frosh Shot.  Between the 2 events they total 16 points.  Not to be out done the Freshmen run some great times.  Camacho knocks Kevin D'Emic off the ATX List for the Frosh 1000.  The 4x200 steps up and scores. Travis Flores posts the #3ATX Frosh Time in the 300.
Some Other Pictures from Mr. Travers.

1/30 Midterm Madness-  A great tune up for the upcoming championships.  Lots of ATX performances as the Underclassmen show they are ready to go.  Congrats to Watch And Acevedo as the join the ranks of the sub 5 club.  Malewich comes up big break 40' to win soph shot.

Our Horizontal jump sectional champs. Mesidor in the Long and Efap in the Triple.
1/24 NYCHSAA FRESHMEN WEIGHT DIVISION AND VARSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS-
A tremendous performance all around on each level.  The day started with the Freshmen scoring multiple people in events. (55 m Dash, Triple Jump,Shot Put) This phenomenon continued as the Freshmen scored two teams in the 4x200 and the DMR. The Frosh performance was capped off by Pedro Vincenty who scored in both his events. (3rd in HJ and 5th in the Hurdles.)  The Freshmen take a hard fought 3rd place, 1.5 points out of 2nd place.  Sophomores Jethro Abrham, Brandon Smith and Joe Klein (all double scorers) led a small but determined weight squad to a 4th place finish. This great momentum continued with the Varsity events.  Brian King smashed his way into the record books by breaking the 2 minute barrier in the 800 meters to grab 2nd place.  He would complete a tough double with a victory in the 600 meters to claim his 1st sectional title. Avery Sternglass would take the 1000 meter run record from John Traugott with his 2:33.47 effort. He grabbed 2nd place.)  Avery would come back later in the meet to take 4th place in the 1600. We were able to pick up major points in the field events as Serge Efap and Keith Mesidor swept the horizontal jumps.  Serge posted a jump over 42' and was able to take the school record as well as the sectional crown.  Keith won with a jump of 20'6" which was done while he was the lead off leg of the 4x200 which was able to grab 4th place with a 1:36 posting.  We had 2 teams break the 1:40 barrier for the 1st time in years. The Sophomores started to show that they are varsity scorers.  Dmitri Zuccarello, Jake Busuttil, Gino Giglio, and Gabe Spooner all scored on the varsity level, with James Kondrat, and Greg Watch both taking 6th place in their events.

ANYONE WHO MISSED THE MEET SHOULD SEE MR. DORMER ASAP.

11/21 Jesuit Championships- This year had it all during cross country.  Construction on the course, Rain at the championships, Illness, injury. None of that mattered to the Seniors as they took the line today for their last high school cross country race. Conlon and King come up big today.  They run huge pr's in a race that is much fastest than CHSAA Championships. Juan Martit shows that he is back from a rough season as he breaks 15 minutes.  Not to be out done, Zuccarello becomes the 5th Sophomore to crack the 15 minute barrier and claim a Varsity Letter for the season.  One the Freshman side, they run tough, just like they have in every meet this year, but they get edged out of 3rd place by Regis.

11/16 Top Times-  Here is what we have run so far with one race to go.

11/14- CHSAA Championships Just as it has for the past three years, the rains came with the CHSAA championships. They were able to take down so of the really big names in cross country with this performance. They place 4 guys under 15 minutes and all 7 under 16:45.  The Sophs have come a long way since they placed 9th as Frosh.Pictures to come

In the Frosh A race 6 runners break 10 minutes, the most we have had this year.  In the Frosh B race 8 runners get below the 11 minute barrier, a tremendous accomplishment.  Meanwhile in the varsity race, the team was lead once again by Avery Sternglass who set a very brisk pace to start the race. Anthony Pucik makes the most of his opportunity to run in the Varsity and posts a pr while finishing 4th for the team. The juniors lead the way in the JV.  Tyler Hickey and Chris DeLorenzo paced the team to a 2nd place finish.  Corwin Connor places 5th for the JV running the fastest time by a sprinter in about 10 years.
