WORKOUTS FOR OVER BREAK FOR THE GUYS NOT COMPETING AT STATES AND NATIONALS

2/16 North SHore Meet- Here are the results from the NorthSHore meet.

2/10 Varsity CHSAA Championships-  What a great day. A complete team effort. The day started with Pat Heaney qualifying for the State Federations by taking 2nd place in the shot. It was followed by Owen Hassler setting a league record in the 3200 meters and becoming the first freshman in league histpory to break the 10 minute barrier.  Sawyer Gwyn-Rowsom overcame a plantar fasciitis injury to grab 5th place in the same race.  Then the Long Jumpers put on a show as both Sweet and Rameriez soar over 20' to take 1st and 3rd.  (Xavier Sweet from Commons All Star to State champion) They score 9 valuable points.  Meanwhile the 4x200 and 4x400 both qualify for the finals setting the stage for a great finish.  Jerardo Perez runs a guts race and grabs 6th in the 1000 and Mike Crorkin sets up at takes 3rd in the 600.  By this time,we had amassed 20 points and it was a tight race between us and St Anthony's and St Peter's. After the 55 meters, St Anthony's went into the lead.  Then we started to take control, Oettl took 2nd in the 1600 with a great 4:20 effort and both our hurdlers score 4 valuable points.  Going in to the relays it was Xavier 28-St Peter's 24-St Anthony's 22 . All we needed to win was our relays to run big.  Relays have always been the strength of the Xavier Knights and it would be the relays that put the title in reach.  The 4x800 took 3rd with a monster 1:55 leg by Oettl, that put us ahead 31-28 over St. Anthony's. Then the 4x400 ran an impressive 3:28 to take 3rd and beat St. Anthony's 4x400 so it was 34-30.  The 4x200 put the icing on the cake taking 4th place and adding the final 2 points.  It was great to hear the Xavier School Song ring out in Staten Island as the team scores were announced.

2/3 Millrose Games-  A great race at the Armory.  Jereardo Perez had a masterful leadoff leg. Waiting patiently to make his move, Jerardo shot to the front of the pack in the last 150 and handed off to Crorkin.  Then the race was on, once in Front the Knights made sure that no one could take their lead.  Mike, Fergus and Raph all ran tough legs and were able to bring home the victiory for the first time in school history.

2/3 Frosh Soph Intersectionals-Even though the flu lessened the number of knights who could compete, nothing interfered with their competitive spirit.  Some great performaces across the board highlighted by Owen Hassler's double gold performance and his winning of the MVP of the league.  The Freshmen would finish 5th and the Sophs 15th.  Not bad showings for the young knights

1/28 NYCHSAA and City Champs-The flu could not stop the Knights from a Historic 4 Peat.  We had some great individual Performances ( Heaney #2 ATX Crorkin #2 ATX) but in the end it was the depth of team that brought home the Championship.  We had 2 relays score in the 4x800 and 2 relays make the finals of the 4x200.  When guys got sick, we saw people step up and find ways to score  That is the mark of a great team.  Congrats to Owen Hassler for getting the League record in the 3200 meters for a Freshman with his 10:00

1/20 Ocean Breeze Grand Prix and New Balance Games-  Split Squad action in the final tune up before the sectionals

2/15 Freshman Sophomore Sectional Championships- A Great meet Owen Hassler wins the 3200 and anchors the DMR to gold while winning MVP of the league.  Freshmen have a big day as many people step it up.  Relay Splits to comes

12/29- CHSAA Weight and Novice Champs- A great meet over break as the Knights storm Staten Island  We see some fast times times in the 300 meters as McKenzie brings home a medal and the 4x200 relays score on multiple levels.  In the Varsity Relays the 4x400 takes silver and the DMR posts the #5 time in the USA

11/4 CHSAA FROSH SOPH CHAMPS-
HISTORIC  That is the only word I can use to describe what the Freshmen accomplished this past Saturday at VCP.  They won each of the 3 Freshmen Championship races and Had the race winner in each Race ( Hassler in A, Goell in B and Asaro in C)  3 guys under 9, 14 guys under 10, and 23 guys under 11  28 of 38 Freshmen hit lifetime best  They left no doubt who the best CHSAA Frosh team
The Sophomores ran very tough as well, missing a number of guys due to injury the A team bravely fought to a 4th place finish edging out Regis by a point.  The B squad saw a number of lifetime bests as they took 3rd place   Overall a great day as we had 5 top 4 finishes on the day.

10/28 NYCHSAA Sectionals and City Champs- What a great day in the park.  The Knights were unstoppable as we won all 4 races on the day and had 4 races winners.  The meet started with the Freshman A race as Owen Hassler lead the race from wire to wire and the rest of the Frosh A team drops some serious personal bests. Tuffey and Toledo go sub 9:10, O'Shea sub 9:20, Edmund sub 9:30  Not to be outdone the Frosh B team puts 7 guys in the top 10 of their race and score a low total of 17 points.  The freshmen were led by 3 frosh who crack the 10 min barrier for the first time. (Mendez, Davilla and Conlon)
Next to the line was the Varsity. A great team can find a way to win, and that is just what our varsity did.  For the 3rd year in a row we take the NYCHSAA and City titles in dominating fashion.  We score less than 30 point and put 5 scores in the top 11 of the race. Oettl becomes the 6th Knight to win the Individual Sectional Crown and 2nd one to win the City Title.  Then the flood gates opened. Lead by Michael R O'Brien the JV score a perfect 15 placing 14 guys in the top 25 of the JV race 7 in the top 7. It was a sight to see just a long line of Xavier Blue.  (even the sky was Xavier Blue)

Our two individual winners, Oettl takes the Varsity race and O'Brien takes the JV race.
10/21 NYC XC Festival-
A great tune up for the championship season.  The Freshmen A Team was able to win the race and take down the school record (which was held by the senior class)  They started with a 15 second lead and opened it up to a 1:30 lead by the time the 5 some was done.  Not to be outdone the B , C and D teams all placed in the top 9 of the B race  This showed the league that our freshman class has significant depth.  Next to the line was the varsity, and as we have done all season, they ran as a pack.  Only 24 seconds seperated our 1st finish from our 5th scorer.  we had 5 guys in the top 8 of the race and all 7 in the top 21 Our 13:20 5 man average makes the all time list.  The JV took the line next and we had 46 guys in the race. Lead by Mike O'Brien's personal best the JV put 7 guys in the top 16 of the race.  All in all a very solid day   Next up Sectionals and City Champs
