5/25
CHSAA STATE CHAMPS What a great way to end the
season. Lots of personal bests as the underclassmen step up and show
that they are ready to compete on a state level.

5/18- NY
CHSAA Sectionals and City Champs- What a great meet. Total
team effort. Knights were picked by milesplit computers to finish
8th in the section and city, but they stunned everyone with a 2nd place
finish in the NY section and 3rd in the City champs. Branham
Upton(Steeple) and 4x100 (Donovan,Banks, Hullihan, Garcia) grab City
titles. Hassler (800) 4x800( Lane Hassler, Rice Mirto) and Medina (Discus)
grab sectional titles. Feeney soars to Pr in LJ breaking 18'

5/11 Frosh Soph Intersectional Championships
(States)- At
St. Anthony's-Great day Great meet Great Performances (So-So
Starter)
Tuffey started the day with a 2nd place finish in the steeple with a
lifetime best. Edmunds would pr in 2 events 400 Hurdles and 400 meters.
Then the pr's kept coming Hawkes would win the 800 and be crowned state
Champ breaking 2:10 Hassler runs a great 1600 leading from wire to wire to
win the title. The Frosh 4x800 also win the state title. Big doings
by the throwers as Massey sets a pr (110) and Archie does as well (108) in
the discus Priolo sets a lifetime best in the javelin breaking 100'
(103) Grgas makes the finals of the 110 hurdles with a pr The
Freshman take 5th as a team and the Sophs take 4th Positive
results The Future looks bright

North
Shore Invitational-
Some fast time for the Varsity as they prep for Champs. Branham
upton wins the 3200 in a pr, Lane Mirto and Brush are 3 juniors who go sub
2:10 in the 800 Abernathy drops a hot time in the 1600 Garcia pops a pr in
the 400
5/6 Frosh SOph Sectional Championships (Cities) At
Icahn- Great results for an afterschool meet as the Freshman
take 4th as a team and the Sophs take silver

Sheer Madness with Class of 2019
5/4 Mountie
Madness- This was a great tune up meet for the Varsity as the
begin to prep for their championships. Great races in the 400
Hurdles, 1600 and Swedish Relays. An all junior 4x400 takes
3rd Impressive results check them out.

4/26-27 The
125th Penn Relays - What a fun weekend down in the City of
Brotherly Love. The knights got the trip started with some sightseeing and
a run of the Rocky steps and then a fantastic dinner hosted by Mr. and Mrs
Slattery '65. The weekend got better as the 4x100 ran a competitive
race in the rain on Friday. The highlight of weekend was the 4x400
on Saturday morning. The relay of Anicich, Edmonds, Lane and Memmo
post our fastest time of the year and snag bronze medals for the effort.

Jesuit Champs- A great day at the stadium as the Freshmen
and Sophomores step up and help the Varsity secure 2nd place. Lots
of personal best
4/22 Novice
Weight Champs- A rainy day but some great performances
4/12
Fordham Prep Development Meet #2- Some great results for the
Knights as they get a quick meet in before the rains. 8 of the top 9
places in the 800 go to the Maroon and Blue. Fantastic running by
the young knights (squires?) as the Frosh mix it up with the
upperclassmen. Joe Medina throws 143' in his first Jav of the
year. All Positives
4/13
NYC Mayor's Cup- A small contingent goes to the Mayor's
cup. Once again Frosh impress as Hawkes breaks 4:40 in the 1600 and
Flett breaks 10:10 (he presently has #1Frosh time in the State)
Memmo and Aninich run some fast 400's and 200's

4/5-4/6- Temple
Invitational- A successful trip to the City of Philly. The
DMR takes 3rd and the 4x200 posts a fast time. (and Mr. Dormer got to eat
some cheesesteak)
4/6 Farrell
Invitational- The underclassmen post some impressive time,
Branham-Upton wins the 3200, Rice takes 2nd in the 800 Lane 2nd in 400
Hurdles and Hassler 2nd in the 1600. Joseph Medina lets fly in the
discus setting the school record with a toss of 146' good enough to
currently be #4 in NY State
3/30 CHSAA
Opener At Ichan Stadium- Great start to the season on a beautiful
day at Randall's Island. The Freshmen make a statement as they place
6 guys in the top 7 for the 1600 and sweep the first 5 places. Other
highlights see Zane Massey take the Freshman Discus record in his first
outdoor meet with a throw of 103'4" (Old record G. Giglio
102'2") The Sophs run some great times going 1-2 in the soph
800 (Toldeo and O'Shea) and 2nd in the Varsity 800 (Hassler). Senior
Sprinters post some good times in the 400 with Knoff and Memmo going sub
54 to start the season.

2/15 North
Shore Pre Nationals Invite- Here are the race assignments for Friday
2/9 CHSAA
Varsity Championships- A great end to the season for a
majority of the team. Highlights included the Frosh taking #1 and #3 ATX
Frosh for the 4x800.
Here
are the Guys who qualified for Varsity CHSAA Champs.

2 /2 CHSAA
Freshman Sophomore Championships at OceanBreeze- A great day
in Staten Island. The Freshman have a great performance as a
team. They score 10 Points in the 1st events. FLett and Hawkes
take individual State CHSAA titles, many guys step up to score as we get
points in 10 out of 15 events. The Sophs rally and improve on their finish
from last year highlighted by the 4x800 winning the State Title. Hot
time by Whiting in the 600 as he drops a lifetime best of 1:32
1/27 NYCHSAA
Varsity and Weight Sectionals and City Champs- Some great races in
a hard fought Meet, The 4x200 takes 3rd in the section and 3rd in the city
running season best times. The 4x400 also takes 3rd and the 4x800
takes 2nd. Many younger guys stepping up to score including Freshman
Finn McCauley who scores in the Varsity High jump. Great signs of
things to come


1/19 NYCHSAA
Freshman/ Sophomore Sectional and City Championships- What a
great day for the young knights at OceanBreeze. The meet started off
with Quincy Flett winning the the 3200 and Hassler and Goell scoreing in
the Soph 3200. It continued as the Soph 4x2 proves why it is important to
practice sticks everyday as they take the win. Mike Hawkes and Dan Carolan
add valuable points in the Frosh 800 as Mike wins and Dan takes 5th.
Not to be out done 3 Sophs score in the 1000 with some impressive
times. (O'Shea 2:52 Whiting 2:56 Asaro 3:04) In the 1600 We have 2
Freshman Score (Moser and Nicolas) and the Duo of Tuffey and Toledo take
1st and 3rd and bring home 9 points. In the 400 Oettl wins the
events from the 3rd heat. In the relays we score valuable points We
had 8 relays (32 guys) score points for the team. In the Field
events, we see the freshmen score in two of the Jumping events as two guys
score in the triple jump (Boutsikakis and Nicolas) and McCauley brings
home the high jump title in style with a 5'4" clearance. Ryan
wong scores for the Sophs in the triple jump with a 3 foot pr. The
future sure looks bright as the Freshman take 2nd and the Sophs win the
Sectional title. Both teams place 2nd in the City Championships
1/19 New
Balance Games- Some fast time as the Varsity tune up for
their sectionals this week.

1/12 Stanner Games
Great results as the team continues its prep for Championship
season. The 4x400 runs a season best 3:33.
(That's 53 a man) Sophs step up big time in their first big time
meet.
1/7 USATF Trials We will run one 4x8 and one
4x2 everyone else has practice
1/4 Hayes
Games/Freedom Games- A friday night meet that yeilds some
great racwes. We saw some fire as the Freshmen win the 25th Annual
Hayes Games. In the final event we had 96 knights run the 400. (a
school record)
12/29 CHSAA
Novice Weight Champs/ Varsity Invite- Here are the results from
the meet over break
12/19 Jesuits Indoor Relay
Championships- Some solid results as the team takes 2nd
place. Highlights were the field events golds we won in the High
Jump and Shot put relays.
12/15 Loughlin
Games/ Ignatian Invitational- A difficult weekend but some good
results. We had 92 guys run the 300 this weekend. That alone
is an impressive stat.

CHSAA Relay Carnival- Great Start to the season, The
Freshman got off to a great start as they post some fast times winning the
DMR and the B team taking 5th. They run 3 of the fastest miles by
any freshman on the day. The Sophs take 2nd in the 4x800, The
Varsity 4x400 and Smr take home medals as well. The throws captains,
Medina and Bartley combine for gold medals as the win the SHot
relay. Frosh Zane Massey has the longest frosh throw of the
day. Great Results all Levels, Exciting Start to the season

Relays- The pre season guys openned the season at this
weekend. Solid preformances mark the day as there are many personal

11/24 Footlocker Regionals- Last
race of the XC season sees 5 Knights take the course at VCP. Some
solid races to end a great season.

11/17
Jesuits- The snow can't stop the Knights, We win All
three titles, It is the first time since 1948 that we win the Jesuit
title. (70 years) Qunincy Flett and Mike Hawkes continue with a
great season as they go 1-2 to lead the Freshman to the title.
Oliver Branham Upton breaks 13 mins and the Varsity runs a great
race to take the title. In the JV McAllister Whiting runs to the win
and we place 7 guys in the top 8 of the race

11/10 CHSAA
Varsity and JV Championships- For the 8th year in a
row the Knights of 16th Street will be going to the NY State Federation
meet. (11th time in school history) (1999,
2000, 2007,
2011, 2012,
2013, 2014,
2015, 2016,
2017). Branham Upton leads
the team with a 3rd place finish. In the JV races, We had some great races
espically from the Freshmen. Quincy Flett wins the JV A race and breaks 14
mins, Mike Hawkes hits 14:10 and Percy Moser runs in the 14:30's The
Sophs drop some hot times as well as Richard Toledo break 14:20 The JV A
And JV C both end tied,but come up short on the tie breaker.

11/3
Frosh Soph Intersectionals- A cold and rainy day in the park
does not stop the Knights from putting up some impressive times.
Quincy Flett and Mike Hawkes both run 8:39 to go 1-2 (#8 and #9 ATX
Frosh) Quincy becomes the 5th Knight in the last 9 Years to win the
individual Freshman title. The Freshman lose a heartbreaker 50-54 to
Chaminade. The Frosh B and C Squads run very competitive races at
grab 2nd in both races. The Sophs continue their winning ways as
they grab both races. In the A Race Michael Tuffey paces the team
with a 2nd place finish. We get all 7 guys in the top 17 of the
race. Soild pact running. In the B race, a statement was made
as the Xavier Sophs scored a perfect 15 getting all 5 scorers under 16
minutes. Dominating performace.

10/27 NY
Sectionals and City Champs- Historic day for the
Knights. For the 2nd year in a row, we sweep the NYCHSAA and City
titles on all levels. For the 3rd year in a row, the Freshmen bring
home the team title and the individual titles. Hawles and Flett make
a dangerous duo up front. Percy Moser drops a 16 second personal best to
take 3rd for the team. All 5 scorers in top 10 In the B race, Will
Taylor leads the team to a score of 18. They take the top 3
spots. Impressive depth by Mr. Bernstein's charges. In the
Varsity Race, Owen Hassler drops a SOph School record with a 13:09 posting
to lead the team to its 4th Sectional and City title in a row. Branham
Upton and Tuffey under 13:30 as we put 3 guys in the top 6 of the race. In
the JV another Soph steps up, Macallister Whiting grabs 2nd overall to
lead the JV. We have 3 sophs in the top 5 of the race, 6 guys in the top
11 of the race. And to top off a great day in the park, the Parents
put on a first class picnic. A big thanks to all the parents
involved in setting up this annual feast, special thanks to the
Abernathys, O'Briens and Ruiz' for organizing the day.
10/20 NY XC
Festival- The Varsity runs a great team race and comes away
with the win. Some good times as we know have 7 guys at 14:00 or
faster. Oliver Branham Upton comes within half a second of breaking
13:00 and Dylan Abernathy does the same for 14:00. The JV run a
great team race as well 22 seconds between 1-5. A greta tune
up for this weekend.

10/20 Frosh
Relays - The Frosh A team continues their winning ways taking the
Frosh Relays for the 2nd year in a row. Mike Hawkes catches
Chaminade about 10 meters from the finish to get the win. He runs
5:06 for his legTremendous legs by many of the Freshmen as they get ready
for the Championship Season

10/13 Burnt
Hills Invitational- It has been a few years since we went
North for this meet, but the change of pace really did us some good. In
the JV B Race, sticking to the race plan, we saw our top 2 freshmen make
their debut at the longer distance one to remember. Hawkes and Flett
made their move at mile 1 moving up thru the pack so that they had a 25
second lead over the race at mile 2. They would go on to grab Gold
and Silver in the race. Hot on their Heels was Julian Bastionello who pop
a huge race to take 6th overall. Not to be outdone, The JV A toed the line
and race a monster team race They had a 25 second compression
between the #1 and #7 guys (18 seconds between 1-5), 4 guys in the top 10
of the race and once again a late surge that saw them move from top 70 at
the start of the race to top 20 at the end. Next to the line (after
Mr Dormer had chili for Lunch), was the Varsity. They faced a tough
test with Burnt Hills in the race (ranked #2 inthe state) 4 other
ranked teams from NY and the top teams from Vermont, the Knights knew they
had to run tought, and they did. 3 guys under 16 mins, all 7 under
17 mins. They would finish 3rd with an impressive sub 16 5 man
average. Overall a great fall day upstate.
10/12 All
Hallows- On the first real fall-like day
the Knights take to VCP and throw down some hot times. The Freshmen
continue their winning ways, lead by Anderson and Moser who both run sub
9:40. Leading the JV is Declan O'Dea who responds to the great
weather by dropping a 16:14 Over all great results for a Friday
afternoon meet.

10/10 NYCHSAA Sophomore
Championships- On the hottest Wednesday I can remember the Xavier
knights steamrolled the rest of the league with a 26-93 victory over 2nd
Place Regis. We got 5 guys in the top 8 of the race and 7 in the top
14 a great team effort.

9/29
McQuaid Invitational- The squad goes up north and comes back
with some gold. The day starts off with Marchesi running a great
race and grabbing the JV title. Next up were the Sophs who ran as a
pack led by Jacob Goell and finished 3rd as a team in the largest race of
the day. Next up were the Varsity who were able defend their McQuaid
win, grabbing back to back McQuaid title for the first time in school
History. results posted as long as team records for McQuaid

9/29- Mayor's
Cup- The Freshmen continue their undefeated season as the
roll to a big win in the Mayor's cup. They Grab the team title by
almost 50 points. Hawkes and Flett lead the squad in the battle for
the best team inthe City.
9/22 Xavier
Invitational- A perfectday at VCP. Low temperatures and the sky
was Xavier Blue. When the racing started, the Knights showed that
they were ready to roll. The Freshmen put 2 guys under 9 mins, 10
guys under 10 and remain undefeated on the season. (winning 3 meets in a
row) The Sophs toed the line next and in one of the largest races
run at VCP this season, they showed great depth as the Soph take the win
lead by Jacob Goell who cracks 15. The Varsity had 3 guys under
13:25 and the raced with purpose and grab the team Title at our home meet
for the 5 year in a row Great pack running as 6 guys finish in the
top 25. Next up were the JV, Led by Matteo Marchesi the JV storms to
a 2nd place finish A great Day at the Park
A Special Thanks to the Guys who worked the meet, you
helped make the meet a success.

9/17 Jim Scott 2 Mile Challenge- For the past 26 years we have
kicked off the season with this tradition. Today the win streak
continued as the Varsity scores a victory over FP in a great race that saw
the top 5 runners in the race (3 Knights, 2 Rams) finish within 4 seconds
of each other. The JV and the Frosh continue the winning by taking the
races from FP as well

9/15 Jim
Smith Invitational- A great trip to Long Island as we net 3
top 10 finishes as a team. the Sophs were led by Michael Tuffey and
Owen Hassler as they go 1-2 in Soph race to lead the Sophs to a 2nd place
finish.. Next up were the Juniors and Oliver Branham Upton ran a 40 second
personal best at Sunken Meadow to take the individual crown and lead the
Juniors to Victory. Calvin Flett and Ethan Rice both placed in top 15 of
their race to help secue the victory. The seniors were led by our
Captians, (O'Brien, Abernathy, and Ruiz) and were able to grab 7th in the
Senior race.
9/15
Regis Invitational- Meanwhile at VCP, the Frosh put on a show as
they win the Regis invitational. Quincy Flett leads the Frosh with a
9:05 posting. Some great results out of the Sophs who competed
here. Future certainly looks bright.
Uniform Order sheets- Here is the cost of the sweats
and uniforms you will need for this year, along with optional items to
buy. Print out a copy of the sheet, put your name on it and bring
the payment to the Athletic Department on 1L. Uniforms will be
distributed on Thursday Sept 13th.
