Some great performances as the team scraps together 18 points.  Highpoints: John Rice winning the 3000 Meter Steeplechase in convincing fashion, setting the school record in the process.( He is presently the top Sophomore in the Nation in the event.) 5/18 NYCHSAA Sectionals-  A Heartbreaker, as we lose to Fordham Prep 82-81.  A great effort by the entire team.  The meet started with us scoring big in the Triple jump and High Jump.  We got 17 points from Febles' crew to start the meet. Meanwhile on the track, Oliver Moe grabbed his 1st Varsity title as he won the 400 Hurdles. This is the 3rd year in a row we have had an athlete win this event and it has been a different guy each time (Wagner, Deniro, Moe). Lucian Mejia would set the tone for the rest of the team showing everyone that we have plenty of guys who want to score in a big spot as he takes 5th. We score 2 in the steeple and Charlie Lambert makes the finals of the 110 Hurdles. We surprise everyone by having 2 4x400's score.  The A team runs a season best of 3:26 to take gold and Jacob Kurpis's huge pr of 53.8 secures 5th place at the line.  In total we crown 6 Sectional Champs ( 400 Hurdles, 800 M, 1600M, 3200M 4x400 Relay, Triple Jump.)  School records galore (Soph 3200, Triple Jump 400 Hurdles, High Jump, Varsity Javelin.)The race of the evening was Nick Karam's great victory in the 1600, Nick made a bold move with 500 to go and held on for the win.  Could not be prouder of the team.

INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD 2012-2013

Indoor Schedule Posted.

Xavier's Newest All Americans
3/8-3/9 New Balance Indoor Nationals-  The season concluded with some school record and great efforts by all involved.  Scott Midgett jumped well in the Emerging Elite High Jump.  John Rice set the school record in the 5000 meters after waiting on a 3 and 1/2 hour delay in the meet.  But the story of the weekend was the 4x800.  We were the last team to make the seeded heat. (the 11th seed)  The race unfolded like it did at Millrose, Frosh Dominick Ronan ran a personal best of 2:02 and gave the rest of the team people to chase, just the way that they prefer to run.  Isidro Camacho, runs his fastest time ever ripping a 1:57.8 to keep the team in striking distance.  Jimmy Buckley ran a balanced race and hit a personal best of 1:58.2 and gave anchorman Eliot Kaufmann the stick with some work to do.  Eliot running a controlled 1st 400 (55) brought it home under 60 clocking a 1:54.6.  Eliot went by3 teams in the last 50 meters to secure the All American status for his relay.  These 4 Gentlemen become the Newest All Americans here at Xavier.  They bring the total of All- Americans to 17 in the past 20 years, but the are the first non- hurdlers to garner this unique honor.

3/1- NY Federation State Championships-  Two Jumpers (Lambert and Midgett) and Jimmy Buckley take the annual trip up to Cornell University.  Some solid jumps by Lambert the CHSAA Triple Jump Champ, and Buckley was able to bring home a 3rd place medal from the Intersectional Medley Relay.

2/21- 2/22- Georgetown Invitational-  Some good times posted on the annual trip to our nations Captial.  The Freshmen step up and score on the Varsity level.  Encouraging signs for the future.

2/17 CHSAA Varsity Championships-  The Jumpers show up bring time.  Scott Midgett grabs silver with his 6'2" leap and also grabs a NY State Federation spot.  Not to be outdone, the Soph Horizontal Jumpers, Lambert and Ciriacks shine in the triple jump. Both go over 42' feet to make the finals.  Charlie Lambert leaps out to a 44'4" to grab the CHSAA State title and a NY State Federation spot.  Cal goes 42'1 1/4" to get 4th. Just incredible jumping by this trio.  Congrats to Coach Matt Febles for being able to get a CHSAA Triple Jump Champ in every school he has ever coached at.
On the Track we had some great races, with both the 4x800 and 4x400 getting championship hardware as they take 4th and 5th respectively.  Many impressive races by the underclassmen.

2/16- Millrose Games-  We put down a monster race and break 8:00 for the 1st time Indoors. Impressive legs by all especially Eliot Kaufmann who runs 1:54.9(1:55.05 FAT)  The fastest relay leg in school history You can watch a replay on ESPN 3. Just Fast forward to 3:35:20

Directions to St. Anthony's via the Northern State

2/3- CHSAA FROSH/ SOPH CHAMPIONSHIPS-A valiant effort by the Underclassmen as they compete against the whole league. A tight time schedule and some breaks that do not go our way, but the Freshman and Sophomores rally and put up a good fight.  On the Soph Level, The Sprinters undertake an ambitious double by running in the 4x200 finals (taking 2nd) and coming back 25 minutes later to run the 4x400( taking 3rd.)  Along the way they grabbed the Soph School Record in the 4x200.  John Rice was able to secure 2nd in the 3200 meters and combine with the distance squad of Sternglass, Vazquez and Camacho to take 3rd in the 4x800 with an #2 ATX SOPH Ranking. In the Filed side of things, Charlie Lambert again soared over 42' in the triple and was able to secure the silver medal in the process. On the Freshman side, Dominick Ronan was able to take 2nd in the 600 in School Record time. Tony Cruise got 5th in the 1000 coming out of the 2nd heat.  The Freshman 4x800 of Cruise, Sanatana, Ovalles, and Clarke also came away with the 5th place Medals. Peter Giglio had a tough day in the cage but he was able to fight his way to the finals and grab the bronze in the freshman SHot Put.

A blast from the past, Cheah and Cuffe together again in Singapore.  So basically, no matter where you go in the world you will find a Son of Xavier there.

Also keep in mind that the CHSAA VARSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS this year will be Feb 9th at the ARMORY.

The 2013 NYCHSAA VARSITY CHAMPIONS
1/27/13- NYCHSAA Freshman, Weight and Varsity Championships-  A total team effort is the best way to describe this effort.  As become the trademark of this team, guys stepped up when they were supposed to, (on all levels) They rallied when things did not break our way. Along the way they set school records and meets records.  The whole time the confidence of the team never wavered as the meet progressed. The Seniors are determined to go down as one of the most successful classes in school history as the add the 1st NYCHSAA Indoor title to their resume.

The day started with the Freshman and Weights going for their own titles.  Monster races by Tony Cruise, Jon Chin as the scored individually and then joined Thomas Clark and Javier Ovalles to medal in the DMR.  Dominick Ronan takes the Frosh 800 in 2:07 and earns him the MVP Award for the meet. This is the 3rd year in a row a Xavier Frosh has taken home this title (4th time in 5 years).  The weight team was led by the relays as the scored in all the relays.  Kevin So sets the Junior Weight School record in the 200 as he rips off a 25.5.

Pictures from Staten Island Advance.

The Varsity Meet started with Eliot Kaufmann running a dominant 800, he cruised thru the 400 in 60 and closed in a 58 to post the #2ATX for the indoor 800 and take his 1st Sectional Title of the day.  He was quickly followed in the scoring by the 4x400 of Santos-Shevett, Kurpis, Lopata and Yanni who got up for 5th place with a 3:40 posting.  While this was going on the Jumpers began to flex their collective muscles as between the High Jump (2nd and 3rd) and The Triple Jump (1st and 4th) the pulled in 15 big points.  The 3200 meter run was a great race as John Rice, Nick Karam, Braham Berg and James Galasso all pr'ed.  John Rice took 1st place, the meet record and the school record all in one race.  Nick Karam got in for 3rd and Braham Berg for 4th.  We took in 11 points in that one event. As the meet progressed, we started to see the points roll in and some great performances.  Mike Bracco ran a personal best in the 55 to break 7. Next on the track was Jimmy Buckley and Lou Vazquez in the 1000 meters.  Buckley went right after the race leader, Galford from Farrell and it quickly became a two man race, with Buckley breaking 2:40 to secure 2nd place. The next scoring race for us was the 600 meters, Billy Dunn showed the determination of the seniors by scoring out of the 3rd heat.  Billy hits a monster pr to take 5th place. Then in the sprints,  Soph Steven Sgarloto set the Soph School Record to qualify for the finals where he would finish 5th and Isidro Camacho runs a great 400 to take 2nd and Nick Musiacchio (Moose) break 54 to take 6th. AT this point the score was 45.25-44 Fordham over Xavier with 3 events to go.  Then came the 1600, Eliot Kaufmann capped a great day taking 1st and Nick Karam grabs 4th to get us 8 needed points. The Score is now  52-49.25. Our final scoring chance came in the 4x800 as we took 2nd and 5th to get 5 needed points. AT that put the meet out of reach at We took home the 1st NYCHSAA Indoor Title in School History.

1/18  Jesuit Indoor Relay Champs-  When Xavier won it's last Jesuit Title, the year was 1983 and Mr. Dormer was just a freshman in high school running his first indoor season.  It all came together this past Friday as the team had a great meet scoring in 12 of the 13 events.  It was the weight divisions that came through big time double scoring in both the Submidget and Midget relay. What a great way to start the championship run.

1/16 Millrose Trials-  What a great night.  The 4x800 ran an impressive 8:01.91 to set the school record and qualify for both the Boston Indoor Games and Millrose Games for the 2nd year in a row.  Freshman Dominick Ronan ran a great leadoff leg, lowering his personal best to 2:03 ( fastest 800 relay split be a freshman in school history), Isisdro Camacho then lead a balanced attack that saw the next 3 legs all break 2:00, with Buckley and Kaufmann completing the squad. The B team posted some impressive times as Hank Camacho lowered his pr to 2:04, JC rice to 2:07 and Nick Karam hit 2:05.  The Sprints the 4x2 finished 1 second out of qualifying for the new CHSAA 4x200 event at Millrose, but they still lowered our season best time.

1/12 Stanner Games-  Some good races on the day.  Highpoint was certainly the 4x800 running the #3ATX with Freshman Dominick Ronan leading off in a personal best of 2:05. The Upperclassmen ran a 6:02 combined for 3 legs to bring our time down to 8:08.42  TOP 25 in the Nation.

1/5/13-  Hispanic Games-  Eliot Kaufmann breaks 2:00 for the 800 meter and Dominic Ronan posts the #5 Time in US for Frosh in the 800 as he hits a personal best.(#2ATX Frosh time). Musacchio leads the sprinters with the fastest time on the day in both the 200(#8 ATX) and the 400

1/4/13- NYCHSAA Soph Sectionals-  The Sophs open up the championship season with a 3rd Place finish.  They win two of the relays and finish 2nd in the 3rd relay.  Charlie Lambert sets the soph school record in his 1st triple jump competition of the year and grabs the Sectional Title.  Steven Sgarlotto takes gold in the 300 to cap off the scoring.  9 sophs take home Sectional Titles.

1/4/13  Hayes Games-  Some great races in this late night meet.  The Frosh run some hot times in the 600.

12/19- Jumpsfest/ Throw Down-  So great performances for a midweek meet.  The throwers take 2 of 3 events with Carpio and Giglio taking the gold.  Blake Cottam ties the school vault record and Charlie Lambert continues the streak of making the ATX list with his long jump.

Anyone who is going to miss any meets or practice this break needs to notify Mr. Dormer in writing before Wednesday.  Presently only 3 ( Kaufmann, Sgarlato, Santos-Shevett) have done so. Also the Varsity was able to get 7 runners under 14 minutes in one race for the 1st time in school history. 10/27 NYCHSAA Sectional Championships- A Great day on the park as we get the races in prior to the storm.  The Day started off with Christian Raslowsky hits a monster personal best.  This would be a tremendous day for the Freshman harriers as 100% of the Freshman team saw an improvement.  Some of the PR's were huge ranging from 30 seconds to 1:49.  Both Freshman teams A and B take 3rd place.  In the A race, we had 5 guys under 10 for the first time this year. Ronan, Cruise,  Karam and Berg all had PR's over 30 seconds on the day.  The team ties for 3rd, just a scant 2 pts. out of 2nd place.  The Frosh B team showed their toughness as they also claim 3rd place team medals. Prior to this race we only had 6 guys under 11 minutes.  AT Sectionals we got 17 guys under 11.  All around great racing.

Not to be outdone, the Varsity wrote some of their own history.  The 5 man average school record had always previously been based upon the best times in a season.  Well, at Sectionals, the Varsity posted the fastest 5 man average. They did it in one race, not a year.  The team took a shot at Farrell and lost a close one 31-40.  Rice and Kaufman led the way taking 2nd and 3rd respectively. Top 5 all in the top 16 of the race.
The JV had a strong race with some guys setting some great personal milestone, Dunn and Peragine become the 13th and 14th guys to break the magical 15 minute barrier.  All around great racing

10/20- NYC XC Festival/ FP Frosh Relays-  Not to be outdone by the Sophomores this week.  The Juniors and Seniors take the A Race at the NYC XC Festival.  Tight pack running help the team dominate league rivals, Molloy, Kellenberg, Regis, and Fordham.  The Varsity average 13:51 as a squad.  The JV take 2nd in a spirited race, led by a personal best by Nick Peragine who hits 15:04.  At the Frosh Relays, The A squad takes 4th as Christian Raslowsky runs the fastest time in school history for the leadoff leg 6:03 for 1.2 miles.  The B, C and D teams post impressive times as 8 runners break 6 minutes for 1500 meters on the day.

The 2012 NYCHSAA SOPHOMORE SECTIONAL CHAMPIONS
10/17- NYCHSAA Sophomore Sectionals-  A great team effort.  The Sophs avenge their 2nd place finish last year with a convincing victory over Farrell and Fordham. 16 Sophs hit personal best times en route to the victory. We put 4 finishers in the top 8 with all 4 of them under 14:30. John Rice Sets the Meet record with a time of 13:20 as he becomes the 6th Son of Xavier to claim the individual title.

10/12 All Hallows-  After a great day of fun and Hot dogs at Maroon and Blue Day, the team saw split squad action.  The Frosh  win and the JV take 2nd. Christian Conlon takes a huge step by dropping his time to 15:14 to lead the squad.

10/13 Burnt Hills-  A great day in the cold up north.  John Rice takes down another school record.  We get 8 guys under 17 minutes and 18 guys under 18 minutes.   Solid races in all three races as the JV impress with some great team running.

10/6 Mayor's Cup-  A great effort by the JV squad as they take on the best teams in the city.  They run great and get 5 scorers across the line in the space of 9 seconds.  Great pack running.  The Freshman had a great day as they take 3rd in the Frosh Race.  Some major improvements as the Freshmen start to believe in themselves.

9/28- McQuaid Invitational- The best we have ever done at McQuaid.  That simple statement explain how the trip went. After an emotional goodbye to Mr. Walker, the team traveled 7 Hours to Rochester and on Saturday they would not be denied.  The racing started as Billy Dunn lead the JV in warm ups. Temperature was perfect and the team followed the race plan to perfection.  Newcomer Christian Raslowski showed that he prefers the longer distances posting the #2 performance by a Frosh at McQuaid.  Next up were the Sophomores who would place 2nd as a team in the largest race of the day.  They would only lose to a Canadian team. Tom Sternglass, Louis Vazquez and Henry Camacho lead the sophs with some great times. STernglass broke 17 Minutes.  Watch, Hatheway and Schwer seal the deal with some fantastic times.  The Varsity toed the line next and with the same intensity and race plan.  The results were amazing as all 7 Varsity guys run Top 20 ATX for the course with John Rice setting the school record and Eliot Kaufman becoming only the 5th man in school history to break the 16 Min mark. Berg, Buckley and Berka cross the line within 3 seconds of each other.  The 5 man average ends up being 16:00.80  Another school record.

9/22 Xavier Invitational-  A great day in the park.  The fences were down and the times were fast. The day started with the freshman improving upon their start to the season.  The Sophomores then took 2nd place in their race lead by Thomas Sternglass who broke 15 minutes for the first time.  The Juniors were led by Chris Cole who brought 6  juniors under 16 Minutes.  Our race of the day was the Varsity A Race as John Rice shattered the Soph School record running 13:18 and Braham Berg broke 14:00 for the 1st time.  We had 6 runners under 14:06 and a 5 man average under 14:00.  This is the earliest we have ever done this in a season.  The Team took 2nd to St. Anthony's.  Overall a great meet

9/17 Jim Scott 2 Mile Challenge-  After school on Monday the Varsity defended their Jim Scott title against Fordham Prep and Regis in a dominant fashion. Taking places 1-4 and posting an incredible 10:07 5 man average for 2 miles. The Knights showed that they are ready to race.  The JV were equally impressive with a 5:01 5 man average for 1 mile and getting all scorers across the line in the space of 12 seconds.  John Rice wins the individual honors, the 12th time a Xavier runner has done that in the last 20 years.

9/15 Regis Invitational-A nice start at VCP on a beautiful day.  The team runs aggressively and we got some great results.

9/15 Briarwood  Invitational- A great way to start the season, a trip to Philly, some great races and a trip to Sonic. We had an improvement of over 1 minute on our 5 man average over last year. An impressive start.
