XAVIER CROSS COUNTRY NEWSLETTER 10/3/93
This weekend, the Xavier team participated in two different meets. The first was on Friday 10/1 at Van Cortland and the second was out at Sunken Meadow State Park on Long Island. In both cases, the team showed a great competative spirit. There were many outstanding performances as well as a few surprising new comers who distinguished themselves. All in all it was an extermely successful weekend, because it showed us that our hard work is finally starting to pay off and it was a wake up call for the rest of the teams in our Section. Since the Varsity came in ninth place out of twenty nine teams, the team records stands at 20-8. This is an outstanding accomplishment due to the fact that we were in the fastest race of the day and up against the defending N.Y.State champs(St Anthony's) and the New England Champs(Pinkerton H.S.) It was a tough race, but it only goes to show that we are able to compete with any team and we are willing to take them on no matter what. Since the medals for Friday's meet had not arrived at race time, the race organizers will give them tome later this week. So I will update the medal count next week. From now on every week,I will highlight the individual(s) who has the most impressive improvement or performance each week.
This week MIP goes to TIM MCNEELA and JAMES ROTHERMEL.
Both of these gentlemen had big drops in their race times. (Tim dropped almost 2
min and JAmes had about 3min.) These performances were truly outstanding.
Also, sophomore BRENDAN BROUDER needs to be mentioned for his great race on
Saturday in the Varsity Race. Congrats, gentlemen.
