Details of nominees performance:
Coming
off the heels of a strong defensive showing and a heartbreaking 7-6 late
game loss to traditional AAA power Chaminade, Xavier needed a strong
offensive showing to win home field advantage in the 1st round of the
CHSFL AA1 Playoffs. Unfortunately, a quick opening drive for a TD
and an errant snap fumble allowed St. Peter's to get out to an early
13-0 lead in the 1st quarter. Somewhat shaken after playing such a
strong defensive game the previous week, Xavier could have emotionally
collapsed, but instead they dug in and cranked up the Amazing Gridiron
Wayback Machine to score 36 unanswered points to finish 3rd in
the CHSFL AA1 Division and to earn a home field rematch against these
very same St. Peter's Eagles.
Xavier's
leading rusher this season, junior tailback Andrew Scariano was
instrumental in Xavier's offensive success. In each of Xavier's
wins this season "Scary" has rushed for over 100 yards and
this was his best showing yet. Against St. Peter's he rushed for
176 yards on 21 carries for a 8.38 yards per carry average and two
rushing TDs of 29 and 16 yards including a 2pt. conversion. More
than yards gained and scores made Andrew was instrumental in 4 of
Xavier's 5 scoring drives with a 15+ yard explosion play in each
including his longest reception of the season for 35 yards. |
