of nominees performance:
Coming
off a tough 24-12 loss to the defending CHSFL AA Division winners, Christ
the King, in a rematch of the CHSFL Championship game in 95 degree heat,
Xavier needed an important rebound win against St. Francis Prep. in Week 2
to put their 2016 season back in the right direction.
Through strong defensive play and a punt return for a touchdown
Senior Free Safety Jalen Johnson helped lead the Knights to a 33-8
victory. Jalen had 7 solos
tackles, 1 forced fumble, a 60 yard punt return for a touchdown, 73 yards
rushing with a 6 yard TD run, and a kick return for 18 yards.
He contributed 12 of Xavier’s 33 points and accounted for 151
yards in total offense all while leading the Xavier Defense which shut out
St. Francis Prep. holding them to only 23
yards rushing and 12 yards passing until the second unit entered the game
in the 4th Quarter. Actually,
Jalen was named Game Captain against St. Francis because he has had two
great games in a row. Against
Christ the King, he scored all of Xavier’s points while making 11
tackles and 2 interceptions which he ran back for a total of 81 yards and
a 40+ yard touchdown. All
told, Jalen has made 18 tackles, scored 24 points and contributed 264
yards in total offense and is the most productive player for Xavier thus
far this season. |
