of nominees performance:
In a
season where Xavier has been struggling to established itself in the
AAA-AA Division, this week’s 21-12 victory over Mount St. Michael was a
big step in the right direction. Pivotal
in the game was the play of Mike Chiarovano who carried the ball 23 times
for 111 yards and both of Xavier’s offensive scores.
After a 95 yard, 16 play drive to open the game, Mike plunged into
the end zone from three yards out. Also
in Xavier’s first possession after the half, Mike ran the ball into the
end zone on an 11 yard run capping a 12 play drive.
As a matter of fact, Mike Chiarovano has had 4 100 yard rushing
games this season, including the last 3 weeks in a row against some of
Xavier’s best opponents, St. Peter’s, Monsignor Farrell, Holy Trinity
and Mount St. Michael. He also
had Xavier’s only pass reception during the contest which was an
important 28 yard reception to keep a drive alive.
Late in the game he also recovered Mount’s second onside kick
attempt to help to cool there comeback in the 4th quarter.
