Details of nominees performance:
In the first round of the CHSFL AA Playoffs #2 seed Xavier defeated #7 seed Kellenberg 26-17.  In what was a tremendous football game, both teams made mistakes and big plays, managed the clock and took field goal points when each other’s defenses stiffened at just the right times.  In a very tight game, the play of Defensive End Anthony Pugliese was one of the difference makers.  Anthony had ten tackles including 5 tackles for a loss and a sack for -9 yards.  Whether it was holding the Kellenberg rushing game to only 79 yds, which included a 66 yd run on a draw for a TD or putting pressure on the Kellenberg passer, Anthony made a big impact on the game in what was his best game of the year.  Anthony is also on Xavier’s kickoff team and a quick review of the film reveals that he was Xavier’s most physical special teams player as well.

Class Honors:
Anthony has accumulated a 93 grade point average during his first two years at Xavier.  Even though he has opted for a challenging course of study including Honors/A.P. Math and Science every year and A.P. World History and A.P. English Literature, he has managed to achieve honors grades in every marking period but one and 6 of his 7 honors grades were 1st Honors.

League Honors:
In both his Freshman and Sophomore Years, Anthony was selected as his Football Team’s Most Valuable Player from the Defensive End / Tight End position which is somewhat unusual.  In his Sophomore Year, Anthony was a leader for his J.V. team which achieved a 9-2 record, while making it all the way to the AAA Division Semi-Final Playoff game.

Other Sports & Honors
In his Freshman Year, Anthony was on the JV Wrestling Team for which he was named the Most Improved Wrestler.  In his Sophomore Year, he was selected as the undefeated JV Rugby Team’s Most Valuable Player from his 8-Man Position.
