Xavier Sweeps
All three Xavier football teams won on Saturday.
In the day's most exciting contest, The Team Formerly Known as the Kaydets... and then the Bruins... (Est. 1882) were trailing Cardinal Hayes by two touchdowns with less than five minutes to play before battling back to win 35-34 in a cardiac-arresting finale that truly was not over until it was over. I pity the fools who were not at SUNY Maritime College tonight to see yet another Xavier football game for the ages.
Meanwhile, couriers arriving at Maritime's historic Fort Schuyler campus from Cunningham Park and Marine Park, Brooklyn's Thunderdome on Saturday evening reported to the 16th Street High Command that Xavier's junior gridironmen continue to wreak havoc in the New York Catholic High School Football League.
At the Thunderdome on Saturday morning, The JV Knights steamrolled Long Island AAA Division power Holy Trinity 41-15 for their fifth straight win. The Super Sophs are now 6-1 on the season.
Over in Queens, meanwhile, The Fighting Frosh were simultaneously dismantling St. Francis Prep 38-0. It was the 16th Street Kiddies' fifth victory— and fourth shutout— of the season against a single defeat.
Details to follow as I hear back from the three teams' coaches.
