CHSFL predictions, Week 5Xavier @ Archbishop Stepinac Saturday, October 9th 7:30 p.m. @ White Plains H.S. Field Staszewski: Xavier has had some thrilling and tight wins the last two weeks and running back Brent Scardapane is a workhorse. The Knights get a step up in class this week. No 'AA-A' team has been able to touch Stepinac so far. None will this week either. Unless Xavier controls time of possession, the Crusaders will be too much offensively. Pick Archbishop Stepinac Butler: I let it ride last week and it paid off as Xavier defeated St. John the Baptist in double overtime. But sorry sons of Xavier, I’m cashing in. Archbishop Stepinac is the class of ‘AA-A’ and have too many weapons on both sides of the ball for the scrappy Xavier gridders to handle. The Knights will play hard, as they always do, but will fall short to the Crusaders. Pick: Archbishop Stepinac |

Good afternoon, Xavier Nation.
This has got to be brief. (Yet again— sorry.) You kids are
trying to wrap things and get your Columbus Day Weekend started.
I'll be Manhattan-bound within the hour. (Long story.)
HERE'S THE DEAL....
The Team Formerly Known as the Kaydets...
and then the Bruins... play Archbishop Stepinac tomorrow
(Saturday) night at White Plains High School. Kick off is at 7:30
PM.
Stepinac is 3-0 in the division and 4-0 overall. The latest
New York State Sportswriters Poll ranks the Crusaders No. 8 in the
state. Even the sports reporters who cover the Catholic
High School Football League for NewYorkPost.com, and who both love
Xavier Football, are calling Stepinac "the class of the CHSFL's
AA-A Division" and are picking the Crusaders to win going
away.
As for the lads at Stepinac— I've read some sports blogs on
which they and their fans whine about not getting the respect they
deserve because they have to play down here in the AA Division with the
likes of us.
So there you have it: the Knights are doomed and there seems
to be little reason to even play Saturday night's game except
as a mere formality so that Stepinac can officially chalk
up another win. Nevertheless, I'll be heading up to White
Plains High School anyway.
I don't know— maybe it's the Irish in me that draws me to lost causes.
Or maybe it's because, after watching them play at Aviator these
past three weeks, I've seen something in this team that makes me
think that I want to be on the sidelines tomorrow night.
If you've seen the 2010 Knights play, you know that they can drive
you crazy sometimes. I know for sure that they drive their coaches
crazy. Still, there's something about these 16th Street Kids.
They play hard— and they never quit. Never. And for the
last two weeks anyway, they've come up with the big play when they had
to. I understand that The New York Post guys had to go
with their heads. They're professionals. Like I said, I'm
Irish. I choose to go with my heart. Last Saturday's
double overtime win against St. John the Baptist was what the Irish like
to call "a famous victory". With Xavier, there's
always another "famous victory" just around the corner.
You wouldn't want to miss it, now, would you?
