Xavier scored three unanswered touchdowns in the second half to beat host Moore Catholic 35-12 in a CHSFL contest yesterday.  The Mavericks (0-4) managed two touchdowns in the first half as Jeremy Rozan broke off a 47-yard run on the first play from scrimmage, and later went over from the 2-yard line for an early 6-0 lead.

Mavs' linebacker Charlie Caruso picked off a pass and returned it 56 yards for a TD in the second quarter to give the Mavericks their second lead of the game at 12-8, but it was all downhill for the Island squad after that play.

The Knights scored on the last play of the first half to make it 14-12, and then went on a 13-play, six-minute drive to open the second half, and when quarterback Kevin Wilkinson went over from the 1 it was 20-12 Xavier.

Moore drove to the Xavier 6 on the ensuing drive, but an interception on the five yardline by Xavier linebacker Ryan McTiernan on fourth-and-goal stopped the momentum.   The visitors then went on a 17-play drive that ate up the last two minutes of the third quarter and the first six of the fourth, and put the contest away (28-12) when Marvin Jean-Baptiste went over from the 3.
