WELCOME TO THE
FINE ARTS WEBPAGE OF
XAVIER HIGH SCHOOL
The Xavier Fine arts Department strives to encourage creative expression; intellectual development, and strong moral character through the Arts
"Music is the universal language"
"First of all; move
me, rend my heart, make me tremble, weep, shudder; outrage me, delight my eyes
afterwards if you can."
-Denis Diderot's appeal to artists
The Fine Art Department assessments are based on effort, attitude, performance, and content.
Individual in-class assessments are varied. However, each year-long course administers written midterm and finals
assessments as follows*:
1. Midterms are administered in class during a full 40 minute period, usually given the week before midterm week. Each test is worth 100 points. Additional projects may be required, as per the discretion of the instructor.
2. Finals may be administered in class during a full 40 minute period, OR Finals may be comprised of a project plus a written component that will be handed in both as a hard copy to the instructor and to Turnitin.com.
* "Cinema" administers two hour written exams administered during the midterm and finals week.
One semester courses (Intro to Art and Intro to Music) administer in-class finals.
